International Monetary Fund – F&D Magazine – Time for transformation

For the inaugural issue of this renewed magazine, I was commissioned to create a series of illustrations representing the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region. The project included the cover, a double-page spread for the inside of the magazine, and a full page.

The main challenge was to develop a single illustration that could be partially disassembled for the cover to preview the theme and also work well as a double-page spread in landscape format.

I was asked to depict the region’s economic development without using literal symbols such as money, economic charts, or technology. Instead, I was instructed to incorporate arabesques and decorative elements from North African visual traditions (zellij).”
